Just like a lot of people I have often wondered about renewable energy.
I know that it’s important for the environment and the future that we find a more sustainable source of energy; and one that does not pollute the air that we breath and the water that we drink (I have got a first-hand knowledge of what air and water pollution can do and believe me it is not a pretty sight).
There is a lot of big talk about renewable energy that may sound over the top to an average person like me.
And the big question for me is ‘how does it affect me?’ Or better still, what are the benefits to me in terms of investing my time and money in having some sort of renewable energy in my home?
• Protecting the next generation:
There has been a lot of talk about the impact of fossil fuel on the environment, the major impact is global warming and both humans and animals would bear the brunt.
Climate change is said to change the weather patterns causing an increase in natural disasters like droughts, hurricanes and heatwaves.
Imagine the earth with water all dried up and everyone fighting for water.
Renewable energy, however, is from natural sources that we cannot use up such as the sun and the wind and that makes it more sustainable than fossil fuels.
• Less harmful in production:
Renewable energy does not produce the same level of waste products that can pollute the environment and endanger lives and the environment.
Also, it’s carbon footprint is less than the more typical energy such as oil, coal, gas and nuclear power.
There has also been speculation about the effect these energies have on our health and I for one would like to leave the earth a better place for my children and their children.
• Financial benefits:
The economic benefit to homeowners is that because the fuel is from natural and easily available resources it requires low maintenance and the cost of running it is minimal and therefore cheaper in the long run.
And with the rate at which our energy bills keep increasing, generating our own energy is the best way to reduce our energy bills over the long term.
So installing any renewable energy source like solar thermals, photovoltaics, heat pumps etc is an investment in the future.
How can I introduce more efficient systems int the home?
One of the easiest ways you can introduce more efficient systems into your home is to start by talking to electricians.
They can offer you advice on certain electrical features, especially heating and lighting, in your home that you could change or convert to be more eco-friendly and efficient.
The bottom line is that renewable energy is safer and sustainable and therefore can provide the energy we need now and in the future without great damage to our environment or endangering human lives.
Most of all it can save you money in the long run.
There are different types of renewable energy but for more information on solar energy.
